A Unique Shelving Unit: A Piece of Creativity by Sebastian
There is something special about a homemade shelving unit, especially when it fits perfectly into the living room. Sebastian has created a beautiful wall unit that is not only functional, but also a real eye-catcher.
Elegant & Functional
This open shelving unit is designed to be both practical and stylish. With various compartments, it offers a place for all your showpieces such as books, plants, and photos. The combination of open compartments and closed cabinets at the bottom provides ample storage space and a stylish look.
Construction and Materials
The cabinet is made of sleek, white MDF, which provides a modern and neat look. The MDF panels were cut to size by TOSIZE.se, which allowed Sebastian to tailor the project exactly to the dimensions of his wall and his personal wishes.
A Perfect Place
With its place in the living room, this shelving unit comes into its own. The minimalist design fits perfectly with the rest of the room and offers a serene ambiance. The cabinet forms a harmonious addition to the wooden floor, creating balance and tranquility in the room.
Thanks to TOSIZE.se
Thanks to the custom-cut MDF panels from TOSIZE.se, Sebastian was able to create his own IKEA hack with the precision needed for a professional-looking end result. The convenience of custom-cut wood gave him the freedom to be creative and experiment with different layouts and designs.
The Benefits of MDF
Why MDF? MDF is an excellent material for a project like this. It is easy to paint, so you can create any look you want, and it has a sleek, modern finish.
Scandinavian Style
The end result exudes Scandinavian simplicity and elegance. The cabinet is understated and fresh, with an inviting look that elevates any interior to a higher level.

Step by step guide
Preparation
- Exact measurements of planks in a drawing and ordered. We have an old house so walls and ceilings were not perfectly straight. During the job small pieces were sawed off at the vertical uprights).
Montage
- Ivar cabinets hung tightly against the wall. Then worked from right to left, whereby we attached the first two vertical shelves to the wall with 15cm screws (drill hole in wood, countersunk screw holes, plug in the wall and then screw). Then shelf by shelf on both sides also with countersunk small screws attached to the vertical uprights. We used angle clamps to keep the shelves in place.
Finish
- All seams with the wall and Ikea Ivar cabinet sealed. Countersunk screw holes filled with wood filler. Then painted the cabinet three times with the same paint as the wall. Ikea cabinets lacquered in the same color. The front of the mdf shelves also painted with lacquer.
